Our Story:
In 2003 my husband Kip and I bought our very own little horse property in Sheridan Oregon. We are both kids from the city of Portland Oregon and were over the moon to dub our place Northwood Farms HQ. (We named it after our rescue greyhound who’s racing name was Due North.)
In 2012 we started a weekly vlog on Facebook. That same year my dear friend Beth Weaver and I started The Northwood Farms Twelve Week Horsemanship Challenge.
In the fall of 2014 we opened The Northwood Farms Campus in Independence Oregon with Beth and Colleen Gardner who has been a close friend and mentor since we moved to the area. In 2024 Beth passed away and we closed the campus. It was bittersweet of course and a bookmarked chapter for sure.
Kip and I both have felt enriched by our Northwood Farms adventure. Our horses, our friends and the moments we share spur us to keep going - searching for soulfood, fun and an in real life continuing story.
This habit of sharing the horsemanship road with friends near and far has wound through our lives and touched us in deep ways. We’ve known some of you for decades now. And, you guys are the best!
What we believe:
At Northwood Farms we believe horses are good for people, people need to be outside and people need community.
Our goal is to support horselovers. Period. It really doesn’t matter how you dress or what kind of horse you have. If you love horses (mules and donkey's too), you're our people!
Community is so important:
Our community connection points have evolved over time. We still host Northwood Farms Twelve Week Horsemanship Challenge each year which is free and open to everyone.
The Northwood Farms Vlog has evolved into a weekly LIVE Horsemanship Remarks Show.
My Blog is so old it used to be a group email! It’s fancier now but basically has the same vibe.
Sharing Knowledge:
At some point along the road sharing knowledge became a part of it all.
I’ve created a members only platform where I publish all the content I’m too private to share without a gateway. It’s called Horsemanship Insider.
I’m also teaching in person and virtually via Clinics, Lesson Days and Video Coaching.
On occasion, I do take an outside horse or two in for training.
Thank you:
Life is crazy isn’t it? So many twists and turns, ups and downs. I feel like horses and horsemanship are a grounding thread. Thank you for stopping by to read our Northwood Farms story. We appreciate you!
